Telehealth & Online GP Consultations

A telehealth consultation is a GP appointment delivered by phone or secure video

When You Can Book a Telehealth Consultation

Monday to Friday

6 PM to 8 AM

Saturday

From 12 PM to Onwards

Sundays & public holidays

24 hours

13CURE telehealth runs on the same booking window as our home doctor service: Monday to Friday from 6 PM to 8 AM, Saturday from 12 PM, and 24 hours on Sundays and public holidays.

During standard business hours (Monday to Friday daytime), telehealth through 13CURE isn't available; your regular GP or another daytime practice covers that gap. 13CURE fits in outside those hours: evenings, weekends, and public holidays, when your usual clinic is shut.

What a 13CURE Telehealth Consultation Covers

A telehealth consultation is a GP appointment delivered by phone or secure video instead of face-to-face, covering advice, prescriptions, medical certificates, and referrals where clinically appropriate. Our doctors take a history, ask about your symptoms, and work through the same clinical reasoning they'd use in person; the channel is the only thing that changes.

Video is our preferred format because it lets the doctor see you, supporting a fuller assessment. However, phone consultations are billed and available too, and are useful when a camera isn't practical. When people search for an "online doctor" or a "phone doctor", they're describing exactly this service.

Telehealth has been a permanent, Medicare-funded part of Australian general practice since 2022. It's not a stopgap or a lesser version of a clinic visit; it's a standing, fully funded channel with the same clinical expectations as an in-person consultation, so we treat every telehealth booking with the same rigour as a home visit.

Why Book Telehealth Instead of Waiting for a Clinic Appointment

Telehealth removes travel and waiting-room time for symptoms that don't need a hands-on exam, which matters most outside standard hours when the alternative is an emergency department queue or waiting until morning. If your symptoms are uncomfortable but not urgent enough to justify a home visit, a phone or video call within our booking window is the fastest way to get advice, a script review, or a referral moving.

It's a practical option for patients with reduced mobility, parents managing more than one child at once, or anyone whose nearest bulk billing clinic is a long drive away. Patients book a 13CURE telehealth consultation for things like a child's fever, a worsening cold or cough, a rash or skin irritation, minor gastro symptoms, a medication question, or when they want a professional opinion before deciding what to do next.

No travel or waiting room time within our booking window
Fast access to symptom advice, follow-ups, and reviews
A practical option for families, seniors, and patients with limited mobility
Covers our full NSW and QLD service area, not just major centres
One consistent point of contact whenever your regular clinic is closed

Who Telehealth Suits Best

Telehealth suits patients who can describe their symptoms clearly and don't need a physical exam: medication reviews, minor recurring issues, or a second opinion on whether something needs urgent attention. When hands-on assessment is genuinely needed, our doctors will say so and point you to the right in-person option instead of pushing a video call that isn't fit for purpose.

What Makes 13CURE's Telehealth Different

13CURE has provided after-hours GP care for over 10 years, with a network of more than 500 AHPRA-registered doctors. What sets our telehealth apart from a standalone app is that it runs through the same triage system that dispatches our home doctors, so if your symptoms turn out to need more than a phone or video call can offer, we're already set up to escalate you to an in-person visit rather than leaving you to start over with another provider.

Check If We Cover Your Area

NSW & QLD service areas

13CURE telehealth is available to patients within our NSW and QLD service areas; coverage doesn't depend on how close a doctor lives to you, only on whether your suburb is inside our operating area. Check your suburb on our Areas We Cover page before booking. Many people search for "telehealth near me" expecting a proximity result, but within our coverage area, a doctor is as close as your phone, no matter where you are.

How to Book: From Request to Consultation

Booking telehealth with 13CURE follows the same process as our home doctor service, minus the doctor travelling to you: submit your request online or by phone, our team verifies your details and triages your situation, and you're connected with an AHPRA-registered GP by phone or secure video within our booking window.

Booking Your Telehealth Appointment, Step by Step

You'll be asked for the patient's name, address, Medicare details, and a short rundown of symptoms. Our team reviews the request, calls to confirm it, and carries out clinical triage, the same check we run before dispatching a home doctor, which is how we decide whether video is the right call or whether an in-person visit would serve you better.

Every 13CURE Doctor Is AHPRA-Registered

Every doctor who takes a 13CURE telehealth call is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). This national body regulates health professionals in Australia. It follows telehealth delivery standards set out by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), the country's peak professional body for general practice. You can verify any practitioner's registration directly on the AHPRA website.

How Telehealth Fits with the RACGP's Standards for Remote Care

The RACGP's position on telehealth in general practice supports its use where it's clinically suitable and can be delivered safely, while recommending referral for in-person assessment whenever a physical examination is genuinely required. That's the same principle 13CURE's triage process is built around: telehealth where it's appropriate, escalation to a home visit where it isn't.

Medicare and Bulk Billing for Your Telehealth Consultation

13CURE bulk bills telehealth for patients from partner practices deputised with us, infants under 1 year old, homeless individuals, and patients from declared disaster areas; everyone else is billed privately, with the fee confirmed before the consultation begins. Telehealth items sit on the same Medicare schedule as in-person consultations, with matching clinical requirements and rebate structure.

Broadly, Medicare telehealth funding needs either an existing clinical relationship with a practice, usually a recent face-to-face visit, or MyMedicare registration, with video treated as the preferred format over phone. Our bulk billing and Medicare guide walks through eligibility, item numbers, and the claims process in more detail, and our page on how bulk billing and telehealth work together goes deeper into the Medicare mechanics specifically.

Whichever category you fall into, we confirm the cost before you connect with the doctor, not after. Our team checks your eligibility when you book, so you're never left guessing what a consultation will cost once it's already underway.

Checking Your Medicare Eligibility Before You Book

A valid, current Medicare or DVA card is the first step to eligibility. If yours has expired or your details have changed, update them through your myGov account linked to Medicare before your appointment to avoid verification delays. Our broader guide to Medicare eligibility in Australia covers who qualifies for a Medicare card in the first place, if that's what you're trying to confirm.

Telehealth or a Home Doctor Visit? How to Choose

Book a home visit

Book a home visit if you suspect a fracture, have a wound that needs a proper look, or need any hands-on assessment; see what actually happens at a home doctor visit if you're weighing that up.

Book telehealth

Book telehealth if you mainly need advice, a review, or paperwork and can describe your symptoms clearly. Not sure which fits? Our triage process makes that call for you when you contact us.

The choice between telehealth and a home doctor visit depends on your symptoms, since both use the same booking window. Our after-hours urgent care guide compares telehealth against in-person urgent care in more depth if you'd like a fuller breakdown before you book.

How Your Privacy Is Protected During an Online Consultation

Every 13CURE telehealth consultation runs over an encrypted connection, and we handle your health information under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. Only the treating doctor, you, and authorised staff involved in your care can access your consultation record.

Identity verification, encrypted call handling, and documented clinical records are built into every telehealth appointment from the moment you submit a request, not added later if you happen to ask.

Data Security Behind Every 13CURE Telehealth Call

Our systems use end-to-end encryption for consultations and secure storage for clinical records. If you have a specific privacy question, our team can walk you through exactly how we handle your information before your call starts.

Getting Ready for Your Online GP Appointment

A few minutes of prep makes a telehealth consultation run more smoothly: find somewhere quiet, well-lit, and private, and have your Medicare card, current medications, and a rough symptom timeline ready before the call connects. For a video consult, test your camera and microphone a few minutes early so a technical hiccup doesn't eat into your appointment.

Telehealth for the Whole Household

Within our booking window, telehealth works for however your household actually runs, whether that's before bed on a school night or first thing Saturday afternoon. We assess each family member individually, so you're not stuck trying to fit everyone's needs into a single narrow slot.

What Telehealth Doesn't Replace

Telehealth is not the right channel for a medical emergency. Chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, loss of consciousness, or any situation where someone's life could be at risk needs 000, not a booking form. Our team is trained to recognise when a request describes an emergency and will direct you to call 000 immediately rather than proceeding with a telehealth consultation.

After Your Telehealth Consultation: What Happens Next

The doctor documents your consultation once it wraps up: symptoms, assessment, advice, referrals, and any paperwork provided. With your consent, we can send a summary to your regular GP to keep them informed and your medical history current, the same way we handle continuity after an in-person home visit.

If a prescription or medical certificate is appropriate, we send it to you electronically, usually within the same session, so you're not waiting on paperwork after the call ends. Our dedicated guides on prescriptions and medical certificates via telehealth, linked below, cover exactly how each process works.

Moving Between Telehealth and a Home Visit

If a telehealth GP realises mid-consultation that a hands-on assessment is needed, they'll recommend an in-person or home visit rather than pushing through advice alone. Home doctors can prescribe medication just as a telehealth GP can, so switching channels doesn't mean starting the assessment from scratch or losing access to a script if you need one.
